Maintaining our Community outdoor ice rinks - we need your help!

The City of Ottawa has again asked the Havenlea-Chapman Mills Community Association (HCMCA) to take on responsibility for the maintenance of the outdoor rink at ACES / Stonecrest Park, and we need your help. The HCMCA maintains five outdoor rinks in east Barrhaven, and we need volunteers close to ACES to help build and maintain the rink throughout the winter.

Last year, the Ottawa Citizen raised awareness to and praised the outdoor rink volunteers across the city (http://ottawacitizen.com/news/local-news/thats-the-spirit-a-toast-to-hosers-everywhere).

This year, with the warm weather and lack of snow, getting started on the rinks is a little later than normal.

Parents and neighbours of ACES students are asked to help build up a base layer when the snow first comes, then spare a little time each week to help scrape and flood the rink at ACES to ensureour school kids have the opportunity to skate during their gym time, after school and on weekends. We will provide the training, assistance and the equipment to do the job.

Please contact us Vance White (julieandvance@gmail.com)
- Past-President, or Andrew Fleck (
andrewfleck@hotmail.com)
- HCMCA President.
